The Rev. Dr. Mary Grace DuPree
The Rev. Dr. Mary Grace DuPree came to Good Shepherd in January, 2025, becoming the 12th priest to serve the parish since the church's inception in 1950.
Teaching has been at the heart of Mother Mary Grace's vocation, before and after her call to priesthood. Mother Mary Grace holds an M.A. in Religion from Georgia State and a Master's and PhD in medieval religious history from Emory University. A lifelong scholar of Biblical and classical languages, her areas of research include monastic history, medieval manuscript illumination, and the early Church Fathers. She has taught ancient and medieval history at Emory University and Anglican ecclesiology at Bexley-Seabury Seminary, but much of her current writing and speaking focuses on issues related to disability in the church and the world.
She is an Associate of the Sisters of St. Mary in Sewanee, an Episcopal order of nuns, and she loves to make retreats at the convent whenever she can.
Most of all, she still loves to teach! Mother Mary Grace loves to talk to people about the transformative power of the love of Jesus Christ in her own life and the lives of others.
The Rev. Canon Cynthia Hizer
The Rev. Canon Cynthia Hizer started her journey at Good Shepherd in 1992 as a parishioner, and continues to serve Good Shepherd in her retirement.
At the time of her call to the priesthood she was a food writer, cookbook author and organic farmer. She organized an organic farmers’ cooperative to Atlanta chefs and in 1992 was named the first Land Steward of the Year by the Georgia Organics Association.
From Good Shepherd she was called into the ministry and has served the church since then. She has retired as Canon of Development in the Episcopal Church of Navajoland (ECN), where she was a missioner of the National Church. In Navajoland she served as Vicar of the historic mission church, wrote grants and started businesses for self-empowerment, food justice and financial sustainability. She and her spouse Margaret donated their successful handmade soap business to ECN, rebranded as SHIMA of Navajoland.
Cynthia is married to Margaret Putnam, who is Canon of Administration and Assistant to the Bishop of Navajoland. Cynthia has one son, Andrew, who passed away in 2020. She has returned to her farm outside of Covington, and serves as a spiritual director and meditation leader.

WhO aRE AnglicanS Anyway?
Anglicans are those Christians in communion with the Archbishop of Canterbury in England, the most senior bishop of the worldwide Anglican Communion. We are called from the Latin word for English, Anglicanus, because the Church of England is the "mother church" of the rest of the Anglican Communion. The Archbishop of Canterbury is not like the pope, but is a "first among equals" amongst fellow bishops. The worldwide Anglican Communion includes the Church in the British Isles and spans 165 countries, with about 85 million members. As Anglicans we maintain a high regard for the Archbishop's teaching, example, and leadership. The Archbishop is the focus of unity in our worldwide fellowship of churches.
