Prayers of the Nine Days:
Keeping Watch
from Ascension
to Pentecost
1. First Day (Friday after Ascension): Come, Holy Spirit, Lord and Giver of Life; be my guide in perplexity, defend me from error, and lead me to truth; grant that I may know and do what is right, and be in me a fountain of living water springing up into life everlasting.
After a time of silent meditation, pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
May the Father’s will be done in me and through me. May I follow more nearly the call of Jesus my Lord. O mighty Spirit of the Living God, may you be praised and glorified forever and ever. Amen.
2. Second Day (Saturday after Ascension): Come, O Spirit of Wisdom, and help me to know God revealed in the Word made flesh, the promise of grace and the hope of glory.
